Coastal Rock Pools of Long Beach Namibia
Description
A wide-angle coastal photograph of the intertidal rock pools at Long Beach (Langstrand), situated between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund. The image captures the dark, weathered volcanic rock formations that break the otherwise sandy coastline, creating essential micro-habitats for marine life. As the tide recedes, these natural basins trap the cold Atlantic waters, reflecting the pale coastal sky and the distant, fog-shrouded dunes. This intertidal zone is remarkably productive, supporting high densities of invertebrates including mussels, barnacles, and limpets, which in turn provide a vital feeding ground for various shorebirds such as the African Oystercatcher and Ruddy Turnstone.
