Marine Life in the Rock Pools of Long Beach
Description
A high-detail close-up photograph of a crystal-clear rock pool nestled within the dark, jagged volcanic rocks of Long Beach (Langstrand), Namibia. The water, refreshed by the high tide of the Atlantic, reveals a miniature ecosystem teeming with life. Dense clusters of invasive Mediterranean mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis) and indigenous black mussels cling to the rock faces alongside various limpet species and small, camouflaged sea anemones. Bright green sea lettuce (Ulva lactuca) and dark brown kelp fronds sway gently in the still water, highlighting the incredible biodiversity of the intertidal zone along Namibia’s nutrient-rich, cold-water coastline.
