Elephants on the Chirundu Floodplain
Description
A breeding herd of African Elephants (Loxodonta africana) foraging across the open Zambezi floodplain opposite Bolts Island near Chirundu, Zimbabwe. Taken in 2017, this wide-angle shot highlights the elephants' movement through the dry, alluvial grasslands that characterize the river’s edge during the winter months. The distant treeline of the island provides a lush backdrop to the scorched earth of the mainland flats.
