Diederik Cuckoo Perched near Windhoek, Namibia

A vibrant Diederik Cuckoo (Chrysococcyx caprius) perched on a thorny branch in the highland scrub outside of Windhoek, Namibia. This small, iridescent cuckoo is easily identified by its metallic green back, copper-tinged wings, and the bold white stripe behind its red eye. Photographed with a Nikon D3200, the image captures the brilliant colors of this intra-African migrant during the summer breeding season.
